Originally from Greenville SC, Stuart completed a Master's of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and served as associate pastor at 1st Presbyterian Church in Athens, Georgia. Prior to becoming Co-pastor at St. Mark's in 1993, Stuart was a national organizer for Witness for Peace in Nicaragua. later in Washington DC, Stuart was a member of a writing collective that collaborated on two books "St. Francis and the Foolishness of God" and "Say to this Mountain": a political reading of Mark's Gospel. Stuart and Lisa have two daughters, Lilly and Rachel.
